Am I permitted to help my family financially despite my husband's refusal?

You must spend on your poor family members even if your husband forbids you.

However, if they are not poor, the majority of scholars believe that a woman is permitted to dispose of her money without her husband's permission. They cite as evidence that Maymūnah bint Al-Ḥārith freed a slave girl without seeking the Prophet's (peace be upon him) permission, and that women used to give their jewelry in charity without the Prophet (peace be upon him) asking them about their husbands' permission.

Some scholars, however, are of the view that a woman is not permitted to give charity without her husband's permission. They cite the hadith (definition): "It is not permissible for a woman to give a gift except with her husband's permission." The majority of scholars interpreted this hadith as referring to a foolish woman or as a recommendation for good companionship and harmonious relations.

It is preferable for a woman to seek her husband's permission before spending, to please him, and the husband should permit her and not prevent her from doing good.
