The answer

Adhering to the religion in a time when people turn away from it is proof of the sincerity of its adherent. These steadfast individuals are the strangers whom the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, praised. You must adhere to the religion of Allah, and it is not permissible to obey anyone in disobeying Allah. As for recommended acts, their benefit should be considered; if abandoning them would win over people's hearts to the religion or avert a preponderant harm, then abandoning them is more preferable. As for obligatory acts, it is not permissible to abandon them except under legitimate and recognized duress.
