Do committing sins and iniquities such as smoking cigarettes and taking drugs or listening to music invalidate the obligatory prayers and the recitation of the Qur'an and prevent their acceptance?

A Muslim must beware of sins and acts of disobedience, because evil deeds can nullify good deeds, just as good deeds remove evil deeds. Allah Almighty has warned against nullifying deeds through acts of disobedience. The issue is not merely in performing the deed, but in preserving it from corrupting factors, such as showing off (riya'), not following the Sunnah (definition), and reminding others of one's good deeds. Similarly, raising one's voice above the voice of the Prophet (peace be upon him), neglecting the Asr prayer, and certain transactions like 'inah, are acts of disobedience that may nullify deeds. Knowing what corrupts and invalidates deeds is of utmost importance for a Muslim. For whoever commits an invalidating sin, the door to repentance is open, and repentance restores the reward of good deeds that were nullified by evil deeds.
