Is committing to reading Imam Al-Nawawi's Hizb every morning an innovation (bid'ah)?
Imam An-Nawawi is among the great scholars, and his book "Al-Adhkar" does not include the hizb (litany) attributed to him, which contains expressions far removed from his style. And even if its attribution were authentic, it would not be a daily litany like the established litanies. Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah believes that the prescribed supplication is that which is authentically transmitted from the Prophet, and that it is superior and more complete than others. Imam An-Nawawi warned against innovations, citing the : "Whoever introduces into this matter of ours that which is not of it, it is rejected." The prophetic remembrances suffice, rendering other innovated remembrances unnecessary.
