What is the ruling on praising the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with poetic verses containing phrases such as "O my master, O Messenger of Allah, O my support," and "O you of vast grace, benevolence, and aid," and "O he who is hoped for in every calamity," and "You give generously without limit or number," and "How many hardships have you sufficed, and how many trials have your right hand untied from all knots," and "O noblest of creation, come to my aid and take my hand," and "In it is the succor of creation, a gift from the Self-Sufficient," and "He is sought for help in the greatest hardships," and "All demands and needs, if lost, are hoped for in this land"?

The aforementioned verses contain great exaggeration concerning the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, including seeking his aid, supplicating to him, and describing him with attributes exclusive to Allah Almighty, such as being the hope in calamities and the succor of creation. This contradicts the pure monotheism with which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was sent. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warned against exaggeration concerning him, clarified that he is a servant who possesses no power to benefit or harm himself, and forbade his Ummah from praising him excessively as the Christians praised Jesus son of Mary, ordering them to say: "Allah's servant and His Messenger." Numerous verses and hadiths have confirmed that he, peace and blessings be upon him, possesses no authority whatsoever and can avail no one against Allah, not even his closest kin. True love for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, lies in following his Sunnah (definition), safeguarding the principle of Tawhid (definition) (monotheism), and shunning exaggeration and excessive praise that could lead to polytheism. For this reason, it is not permissible to praise him with these verses.
