The answer

Following the of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is good. He instituted the practice of looking at a prospective fiancée, and it is permissible to look at her even without her knowledge. There is no harm for one who intends to marry to look at his fiancée within the permissible limits, even if her family is unaware. Society must abandon customs that contradict the Sunnah, because looking at the fiancée is a cause for affection. It is not permissible for someone who is forced to marry a person he dislikes to use this as a means to do what Allah has forbidden. Rather, he must fulfill her rights by treating her kindly or divorcing her amicably, and he must protect himself from sins and transgressions.
