The answer

The first glance at a forbidden sight, if unintentional, carries no sin, based on the of Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him): "I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about an accidental glance, and he commanded me to avert my gaze." However, intentionally looking at it, or prolonging the gaze, incurs sin, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to Ali: "O Ali, do not follow a glance with another glance, for you are allowed the first, but not the second."
