How sound is the Hadith that states: "It is well-known to aid the distressed"?
The with the exact wording mentioned is not known, but what indicates its meaning has been reported in Al-Bukhari and Muslim on the authority of Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Every Muslim must give Sadaqa (charity)." He mentioned various ways of giving Sadaqa, including working and earning, helping the needy, enjoining good, and refraining from evil. Abu Dawud also narrated from Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade sitting in the roadways unless one gives the road its due right, which includes lowering the gaze, refraining from causing harm, returning greetings, enjoining good and forbidding evil, aiding the distressed, and guiding the lost.
