The question

Is the Hadith: "Indeed, Allah Almighty created creation in darkness, then He cast His light upon them. So, whoever was touched by that light was guided, and whoever was not touched by it went astray. The pens have dried," authentic or weak, and is it acceptable or does it contradict the Qur'an and Sunnah?

The answer

The Prophetic , "Allah عز وجل created His creation in darkness, then on that day, He cast upon them some of His light. So, whoever was touched by His light on that day was guided, and whoever missed it went astray," indicates that whoever was touched by Allah's light was not touched by chance, but because Allah knew eternally that they would be righteous. And whoever was deprived of it was not deprived by chance, but because Allah knew eternally that they would be among the wretched. The intent is that the Pen has dried concerning what Allah knew eternally, and this is the view held by Ibn Hajar, Ibn Hibban, Al-Aajurri, and Al-Bayhaqi.
