To what extent is the hadith "Two rak'ahs with siwak are better than seventy without siwak" authentic?
The was narrated by Ahmad, Al-Hakim, Ibn Khuzaymah, Al-Daraqutni, Al-Bayhaqi, Al-Bazzar, Abu Ya'la, and Ibn 'Adi through various chains, all of which are weak, and some are fabricated. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar stated in Al-Talkhis Al-Habir: "Its central narrators, according to them, are Ibn Ishaq and Mu'awiyah ibn Yahya Al-Sadafi, both from Al-Zuhri, from 'Urwah." Al-Khatib narrated it in Al-Muttafaq wal-Muftaraq from the Hadith of Ibn 'Ufair, from Ibn Lahi'ah, from Abu Al-Aswad, from 'Urwah. Al-Harith ibn Usamah narrated it in his Musnad from another route, from Abu Al-Aswad, except that it contains Al-Waqidi. It has another chain narrated by Abu Nu'aym, from the route of Faraj ibn Fadalah, from 'Urwah ibn Ruwaym, from 'Aishah, and Faraj is weak. Ibn Hibban narrated it in Al-Du'afa' from the route of Maslamah ibn 'Ali, and Maslamah is weak. Yahya ibn Ma'in said: "This Hadith has no sound chain of narration, and it is false." Abu Nu'aym narrated it from the Hadith of Ibn 'Umar, and from the Hadith of Ibn 'Abbas, and from the Hadith of Jabir, and their chains are defective. Al-Albani deemed it weak in Al-Da'ifah, and he judged Ibn Al-Najjar's narration to be fabricated.
