What is the authenticity of the حديث (Hadith) that mentions the story of a man who asked the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, about what is beneath the seven earths, then about what is beneath the ثرى (subterranean layer of earth), and the encounter ends with the Prophet's eyes overflowing with tears, after which he informs the Companions that this man was Jibril (Gabriel)?

The aforementioned Hadith (definition) is very weak and contains obvious anomality (nakara), due to Al-Qasim ibn Abdur-Rahman being the only narrator, and he is weak and has many confused narrations (mudtarib al-hadith). Although some of what is mentioned in it is authentic from other perspectives, that does not strengthen this particular Hadith. The authenticity that the Prophet's eyes would sleep but his heart would not, and that the resemblance of a child to its father or mother is due to the dominance of one's water over the other, came in other authentic Hadiths, such as the Hadith of Anas, Abu Hurairah, Thawban, and others. However, these do not attest to this specific context of the mentioned Hadith nor do they strengthen it.
