The question

What is the authenticity of the Hadith which mentions that Moses, peace be upon him, when he read the Tablets, found therein the virtues of the nation of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and wished that it would be his nation, whereupon the reply came that it is the nation of Ahmad, and a detailed explanation of those virtues, among which are: contentment with little, being gathered on the Day of Resurrection with bright faces and white limbs, fighting the Dajjal, establishing prayer, purification with earth (tayammum), the permissibility of spoils of war, fasting Ramadan, Hajj, forgiveness and intercession, seeking forgiveness for sins, being the last but first (in rank), their Gospels being in their hearts, the multiplication of good deeds, the recording of bad deeds, being the best of people, and their being gathered in three groups; and then Moses asked to be of the nation of Ahmad, whereupon the divine reply came: "O Moses, I have chosen you above the people with My messages and My words, so take what I have given you and be among the thankful"?

The answer

The exegetes mentioned narrations from Qatadah and Ka'b al-Ahbar concerning this matter, and it is likely that they were taken from the People of the Book. It is noted that what is taken from the People of the Book is neither to be believed nor disbelieved.
