The question

What is the degree of authenticity of the Hadith mentioned in (al-Gharar fi Fadail Umar, may Allah be pleased with him) by Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti, the fortieth Hadith, on the authority of Ammar ibn Yasir, in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, says: "O Ammar, Gabriel just came to me, and I said: O Gabriel, tell me about the virtues of Umar ibn al-Khattab in the heavens. So he said: O Muhammad, were I to tell you about the virtues of Umar for as long as Noah remained among his people, a thousand years save fifty years, the virtues of Umar would not be exhausted. Indeed, Umar is a good deed among the good deeds of Abu Bakr"?

The answer

The aforementioned was narrated by Al-Tabarani in Al-Awsat and Abu Ya'la in his Musnad, and its chain of narration is weak. Al-Mulla Ali Al-Qari mentioned it in the book "Al-Asrar Al-Marfu'ah fi Al-Akhbar Al-Mawdu'ah" (The Lifted Secrets Regarding Fabricated Reports). The virtues of Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, have been widely attested to by authentic hadiths and historical events; he is the best of this Ummah after its Prophet and his companion Abu Bakr.
