Does saying "Allahumma Salli 'ala al-Nabi" help in remembering when one forgets, and what is the ruling on that?

Among the things that help one remember something forgotten is to invoke blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when forgetting it. This is because Ibn al-Qayyim, al-Qastallani, and others mentioned that invoking blessings upon the Prophet helps one remember what was forgotten, and that it is legislated for a Muslim if he forgets something. A hadith (definition) narrated by Anas, raising it (to the Prophet), states: “If you forget something, then invoke blessings upon me, and you will remember it, if Allah the Almighty wills.”
