How sound is the narration attributed to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) to Amr ibn al-'As (may Allah be pleased with him), in which he says: "From Abdullah, Amir al-Mu'minin Umar ibn al-Khattab, to al-'As ibn al-'As: It has reached me that you sit reclining in the court of judgment, so sit humbly among the people, O Ibn al-'As, or else I will depose you"?

The mentioned narration was not found in the books; rather, it is circulated online, and its text is denounced. Leaning does not negate humility, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to lean, and he was the master of the humble. Al-Bukhari included a chapter in his Sahih (definition) titled "Chapter: Whoever leaned in front of his companions," and he mentioned the hadith (definition) of Khabbab and the hadith of Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakra. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar mentioned that leaning is permissible for a scholar, a mufti (definition), or an imam for comfort or pain, and this should not be the general posture.
