Is it permissible to urinate standing up in dirty restrooms where one cannot sit down?
It is permissible for a man to urinate while standing when there is a need, especially if the restrooms are dirty, provided he is careful not to let urine splash on his body or clothes, and to avoid exposing his awrah. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned that urinating while standing is not disliked when there there is an excuse, but it is disliked without an excuse if there is a fear of exposing the awrah or of urine splashing. The permissibility is supported by the of Hudhayfah, which states that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, urinated while standing, with the note that his usual practice, peace and blessings be upon him, was to sit, and that urinating while standing was done out of necessity.
