Is the Hadith "No wealth was ever gathered from lawful sources" authentic, and what is its chain of transmission and interpretation?

The aforementioned hadith (definition) was not narrated with this wording, and it cannot be attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Moreover, its meaning contradicts both Islamic law and reality. Islamic law affirms the existence of righteous and virtuous people in every era, and reality testifies to the presence of owners of lawful wealth throughout history, such as Uthman ibn Affan, may Allah be pleased with him. A similar meaning was reported in a very weak or fabricated hadith, which states: "Rarely will there be found in the Last Days a dirham of lawful wealth, or a trustworthy brother." One must be cautious about reading books that attribute words to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when they are not his words.
