Is the wife divorced and forbidden to her husband if the husband vowed to himself not to commit the abomination of adultery, and he broke his vow after saying: "My wife is divorced and forbidden to me for as long as I live if I commit the abomination of adultery"?

We warn the questioner against committing indecencies and advise them to repent. If the matter is merely a self-whisper (hadith (definition) al-nafs), divorce does not occur by it; because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, Allah has overlooked for my Ummah what their souls whisper to them, as long as they do not speak of it or act upon it." However, if you uttered what your soul whispered to you, intending to prevent yourself from falling into adultery without intending divorce, then scholars have differed on whether divorce occurs in this case, and the decision rests with the Sharia (definition) judge.
