What is the definition of the izār (wrapper/lower garment)? Does it include regular trousers? Is the prohibition in the hadith: "Whatever of the izār is below the ankles is in the Fire," restricted to out of pride? And is this an issue of scholarly disagreement where one may choose the opinion one feels comfortable with?

The Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) hadith (definition): "Whatever is below the ankles of the izar (garment) is in the Fire," and Ibn Umar's hadith indicate the prohibition of letting the izar and other garments hang below the ankles in all circumstances, whether done out of arrogance or not, according to the preponderant opinion of the scholars. Some scholars, however, held that dragging the izar and other garments is forbidden if done out of arrogance, and disliked if not done out of arrogance. It is incumbent upon a Muslim to adopt the opinion that is closest to the Shariah evidence.
