The answer

An oath using the phrase "By God" (يمين الله) is a binding oath that necessitates expiation if broken. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, swore by it, as in his saying: "By God, if Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad, were to steal, Muhammad would cut off her hand." What is prescribed for a Muslim is to safeguard their oaths and not to frequently swear them, except for a legitimate religious benefit, due to Allah’s saying: (And guard your oaths).
