The question

What is the validity of what I previously considered to be menstruation and purity? What is the ruling on the brownish discharge (kudra) that appears most days of menstruation, sometimes stopping for a few hours? Is it considered menstruation or purity? And is the menstrual cycle calculated from the beginning of the brownish discharge, given that there is no explicit blood?

The answer

The majority of jurists hold that a brownish discharge (kudra) is considered menstruation if it occurs during the period of a woman's customary cycle. Some scholars disagree with this if it is not preceded by blood. The brownish discharge that occurs during the customary period is considered menstruation by the majority of scholars. The practice of not considering the brownish discharge before blood, but rather deeming it menstruation if it is connected to blood, or if it occurs during the customary period and does not exceed fifteen days, is considered correct.
