The answer

If a woman's postpartum bleeding () has ceased, divorcing her is permissible. However, if it has not yet ceased, this is an innovated divorce ( bid'i), which, while valid, is sinful. The divorcer must take her back and then divorce her during a period of purity (tuhr) in which he has not had intercourse with her. If he does not do so, her waiting period () begins after she becomes pure from nifas, and the remaining days of nifas are not counted towards the iddah, just as is the case with divorce during menstruation. It is advisable to refer to courts for matters of divorce.
