Is an apostate considered to have fulfilled their obligation if they repent, pronounce the Two Testimonies (Shahadatayn), seek forgiveness, but do not perform ghusl with the intention of embracing Islam? And is the ghusl for an apostate waived if there was no occurrence necessitating ghusl, such as major ritual impurity (janabah) or post-natal bleeding (nifas), as held by the Malikis?

Ablution (ghusl (definition)) is not a condition for the validity of repentance from disbelief (kufr), and one must hasten to embrace Islam without delaying it for ablution. Scholars have differed regarding the obligation of ghusl upon a disbeliever when they embrace Islam. Some have deemed it obligatory absolutely, while others have deemed it not obligatory absolutely. Others have differentiated, deeming it obligatory if the original disbeliever or apostate performed an act that would necessitate ghusl while they were in a state of disbelief. This differentiation is the most preponderant (rajih (definition)) opinion.
