What should a woman in postpartum bleeding (nifas) do if she entered into a state of ihram for Umrah, then returned to her city without completing the rituals because she was unsure of the cessation of bleeding: should she exit ihram and resume her life, or must she return to Makkah to complete the Umrah?

One cannot exit the rituals (nusuk) except by completing them, or by performing tahallul (exiting the state of ihram (definition)) if a condition was stipulated and met, or due to being prevented (ihsar). Your wife must remain in her state of ihram until she becomes pure and completes her 'Umrah (definition), even if it requires her traveling with a mahram (definition) or a trustworthy group. If that is not possible, then if she stipulated at the time of assuming ihram by saying: "If I am prevented by a preventer, then my place of exiting ihram is where I am prevented," she exits ihram by intention and owes nothing. If she did not stipulate, she exits ihram as one who is prevented (muhsar) by three things: intention, slaughtering the sacrificial animal (hady shar'i) at the place of her prevention and distributing it to the poor, and shaving or shortening her hair. This is if she does not hope for the removal of the prevention within three days.
