How can I overcome mind-wandering during prayer with thoughts of studying, and the feeling that studying is more important than prayer, especially since I live alone outside my homeland?
Allah has commanded the establishment of prayer, meaning its outward establishment by fulfilling its conditions, pillars, and obligations, and its inward establishment through humility (khushu') and presence of heart. Humility is the essence and spirit of prayer, and a person gains nothing from their prayer except what they comprehend from it. Among the things that help achieve humility is the feeling that Allah is greater than anything that comes to mind, so the worshipper feels shy to occupy their heart with anything other than Allah. We also refer the questioner to previous fatwas regarding humility in prayer and the dangers of a woman traveling without a , as it is impermissible for a woman to travel alone without a mahram.
