Is it permissible for a woman to travel to visit her husband in prison without a mahram, if her journey is from dawn until dusk?

It is not permissible for a woman to travel without a mahram (definition) (unmarriageable kin) if that is considered travel by custom, or if there is fear of fitna (temptation/strife) and insecurity. Scholars have unanimously agreed on the prohibition of a woman traveling without a mahram if fitna is feared for her, except in cases of necessity. The majority of them have gone further to say that it is absolutely forbidden, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) sayings: "A woman shall not travel except with a mahram," and "It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to travel a distance of a day and a night except with a mahram." Therefore, a Muslim should not commit a forbidden act by violating a permissible one. However, if the distance is short, not considered travel by custom, and there is no fear of fitna, then there is no objection.
