Is the brownish discharge (Kudrah) that precedes the onset of bleeding considered menstruation? Is the clear, transparent fluid mixed with the brownish discharge (Kudrah) considered purity? And is it part of the white discharge (Qassah Al-Bayda’), especially since the sign of purity is the emission of this fluid, and the white discharge (Qassah Al-Bayda’) is not seen after the cessation of menstruation?

What is seen of brown discharge before menstruation is considered kudrah (brownish discharge). If it appears during the time of menstruation and is accompanied by its symptoms, then it is menstruation. The same applies to yellowish discharge (sufrah) and brownish discharge (kudrah) that is connected to blood after its cessation, before seeing purity, as long as their total duration does not exceed 15 days. As for yellowish discharge and brownish discharge after purity, they are not menstruation, based on the hadith (definition) of Umm Atiyyah: "We did not consider the yellowish discharge and the brownish discharge after purity to be anything (i.e., not menstruation)." The sign of purity is complete dryness or the appearance of al-qassah al-bayda' (a thin white discharge). A woman performs ghusl (definition) and prays once she sees the sign of purity.
