The Hadith (definition) states that the reason for the deficiency in a woman's intellect is that her testimony is half that of a man, and the reason for the deficiency in her religious commitment is her abstaining from prayer and fasting during her menstrual period. A verse in the Quran clarified that the reason for a woman's testimony being half that of a man is the fear that one of them might err, so the other would remind her.
