What is the ruling on striking from work to achieve demands or improve conditions?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
Striking is a breach of the work contract, and Allah has commanded fulfilling contracts, as He says: (O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts). It may also be accompanied by mischief and rioting, and averting harm takes precedence over gaining benefits. There are other means to achieve demands. However, stopping work due to non-payment of wages is permissible, because the employer has breached the contract, and due to the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: (Give the laborer his wages before his sweat dries).
