Is it permissible to eat from spoiled foods that the company has decided to destroy and throw into the trash?
If the food is destined to be discarded, then there is no harm for the employee to benefit from it, provided that no damage results from this. The company must not throw away food that is fit for consumption and benefit, and officials should be advised of this, clarifying the impermissibility of destroying it if there is a way to benefit from it, such as giving it to the poor or to animals. This is because discarding it when it is possible to benefit from it is considered a waste of wealth, which is forbidden by Islamic law. Your taking of this food may be a form of changing a reprehensible act, provided that it does not lead to greater harm, such as punishment from the employer.
