How can I combine reading the Qur'an for the deceased and supplicating for myself and my family, while avoiding wiping the face and raising the hands after supplication?
The correct view is that the deceased benefits from physical and financial acts of worship performed by their living relatives with the intention of dedicating their reward to them, such as fasting, charity, and manumission. This is supported by the of Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah, may Allah be pleased with him. Charity, supplication, and seeking forgiveness for the deceased are better than dedicating the recitation of the Qur'an to them. The deceased benefits from these actions, and the performer of these actions is rewarded. Raising the hands during supplication is a and a means of gaining a response. It is disliked in certain situations, such as when the Friday Khateeb supplicates, unless he is seeking rain. It is not permissible to raise hands collectively or individually after the obligatory congregational prayer. Wiping the face or chest with the hands after supplication is an innovation and is not permissible.
