Breaking the fast is not permissible except out of necessity for one who is able to complete the fast. However, if a fasting person feels thirst or is harmed while rescuing an injured person or extinguishing a fire, it is permissible for him to break his fast, based on the Almighty's saying: (So fear Allah as much as you are able) and (Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity), and based on the Prophet's (PBUH) saying: (When I command you to do something, do of it as much as you are able). Breaking the fast is absolutely permissible when traveling.
