A wife must serve her husband, but pregnancy is an excuse that obliges the husband to consider his wife and have compassion for her. Pregnancy often entails effort and weakness, and religious obligations are restricted by ability and capacity. If pregnancy is an excuse for the waiving of some duties, such as fasting, then it is all the more an excuse in matters of service and household chores. Sharia (definition) is built upon ease and the removal of hardship, and a wife's service is limited to what does not lead her to unusual hardship.

A wife must be diligent in caring for her home and the comfort of those within it, and strive to provide tranquility and reassurance. She should not abandon her home and husband due to pregnancy. If she works outside the home and cannot reconcile her work with serving her household, then she should take leave from her job or hire someone to assist her with household matters.
