The answer

Working in a restaurant that serves pork or other forbidden items falls into two categories:

1. If a person's work involves handling and serving forbidden items: This work is impermissible because it constitutes cooperation in sin and transgression, which is prohibited in Allah’s saying: (And do not cooperate in sin and transgression) [Al-Ma'idah: 2]. The earnings from such work are unlawful and must be disposed of by spending them on general Muslim welfare. 2. If a person's work is limited solely to permissible tasks: It is better for a Muslim to avoid such work to steer clear of doubtful matters, as stated in the of Nu'man: "Indeed, what is lawful is clear, and what is unlawful is clear, and between them are doubtful matters… So, whoever avoids doubtful matters has acquitted himself from blame with regard to his religion and his honor." As for the earnings from this work, they are permissible for him.
