How is the value of the oath expiation estimated in money? Is it permissible to give it as money instead of food? Is it a condition to perform expiations before giving charity? Is it permissible to give expiation money to charitable organizations?

Whoever is liable for one or more oaths of expiation (kaffarat yamin (definition)) has the choice of feeding ten needy persons, or clothing them, or freeing a slave. If none of these is found, then fasting three days for each expiation. The amount of food for each needy person is a mudd of food (approximately 750 grams of rice), and it is more cautious to give half a sa' (approximately 1.5 kilograms). It is not permissible to pay the expiation in cash according to the majority of jurists. It is permissible to authorize a trustworthy charity organization to distribute the expiation, and they must be informed that it is an expiation. There is no harm in giving voluntary charity before performing the obligatory expiations, as long as it does not incapacitate one from performing them; otherwise, it is not permissible.
