Is it permissible to pay for the medical expenses of the poor and to rent a car for them from the funds of Sadaqah and Zakat?

The poor and ill are the most deserving of due to their poverty, illness, and need for treatment. Zakat is given directly to them or to their representative. If they are unable to receive it themselves and have no representative, then it is permissible to spend it on their treatment and other essential needs. As for voluntary charity (sadaqat al-tatawwu'), it is given to the poor and others, regardless of whether they are ill or not.
