The answer

Charity, whether through planting trees or giving money, expiates sins and forgives transgressions, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "And charity extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire." Planting trees is an ongoing charity ( jariyah), and its doer is rewarded for it even after his death, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "No Muslim plants a tree or sows a seed from which a bird, a human, or an animal eats, but it will be charity for him." Ongoing charity is better than interrupted charity, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When a person dies, his deeds are cut off except for three: ongoing charity, knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him." Good is hoped for you if you give charity by planting a tree, but the forgiveness of sins is from the unseen.
