Is Zakat due on figs and fruits, and what is the Nisab for each of them? Is it due on oil, and what is its Nisab, and is it given as oil or as grains?

Scholars have differed regarding the Zakat (definition) on fruits like figs. The majority are of the opinion that Zakat is not obligatory on them, citing the Hadith (definition): "There is no Sadaqah (definition) (Zakat) on grain or dates until it reaches five awsuq (plural of wasq)." However, Abu Hanifa was of the opinion that it is obligatory on everything produced by the earth.

The most preponderant view is the obligation of Zakat on figs, as long as they are dried and stored like dates. The nisab (definition) (threshold) for them is five awsuq (300 sa's = approximately 562.800 kg). Similarly, Zakat must be paid on olives, and the preponderant view is that one has the choice of giving it as olives or as oil. As for fruits that are not stored, there is no Zakat on them except after their sale and the passing of a hawl (a full lunar year) on their price.
