Is it obligatory for a Muslim to send his wife for Hajj if he possesses the financial means to do so?

A husband is not obligated to bear the expenses of his wife's Hajj, even if he is wealthy. It is a recommended act for which he will be rewarded, but he does not sin by not doing it. Islam has not made this obligatory, neither in the Qur'an nor in the Sunnah (definition). It has obligated the husband to spend within what is reasonable, but it has not obligated him to pay her debts, her Zakat (definition), or her Hajj expenses. The jurists have mentioned that the husband will be rewarded if he bears the expenses of Hajj, and he will receive the reward for her Hajj. However, it becomes obligatory if he deliberately spoils her Hajj.
