Is it permissible for a father to give his Zakat al-mal to his indebted son in order to relieve him of his debt, especially if the father's intention was not to consider it a debt from the beginning?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
It is permissible to pay to one's father and son to settle their debts. However, it is not permissible for the father to give his son from his Zakat money to settle the son's debt owed to the father himself, unless it is without prior agreement to settle another debt. In that case, it is permissible for the son to pay Zakat to his father, even if it is subsequently.
