It is permissible to give to the (debtor), who is someone in debt. This category is divided into a debtor for his own benefit or for the benefit of society. For a debtor for his own benefit, it is stipulated that he must be in need to repay his debt. His ownership of a dwelling or clothing, etc., does not prevent him from receiving zakat, provided that he is not wealthy and capable of repayment, and that his debt is for a permissible matter or an act of obedience. It is permissible to give zakat to a son-in-law if he is among the debtors.
