What suffices for al-Fitr is that it be from food, and this is the view of the majority of scholars. Some scholars have gone to the permissibility of giving its value in cash. For those who permit it, the value is estimated at the price of the food required to be given, which is approximately two and a half kilograms of rice and wheat.
