Is it permissible to give a four-year-old male camel instead of a four-year-old female camel (jadha’ah) in zakat, knowing that the male camel is of higher value in the questioner’s country?

It is not permissible to offer a "jadha'" (male camel) instead of a "jadha'ah" (female camel) in zakat (definition). It is obligatory to offer a female jadha'ah, or a "hiqqa" with two sheep or twenty dirhams. A male of the same age does not suffice for a female, and there is no jurist who has ruled the permissibility of that. The deficiency of a male is not compensated by an increase in age except in specific cases, such as an "ibn al-labun" in place of a "bint al-makhadh."
