Is Zakat currently obligatory on money that has reached the Nisab and on which a full year has passed, and which is designated for building a farm? Does the money designated for building count towards the Nisab? Is it permissible to donate Zakat to a children's cancer hospital?

If the saved money reaches the nisab (definition) and a year has passed over it, zakat (definition) becomes obligatory on it, and its being saved does not affect this. However, if the money is invested in a project, zakat is only obligatory on what is designated for trade, while buildings and machinery are not subject to zakat. In the case of agriculture, zakat is only obligatory on the produce if it is a staple food that can be stored, and its amount is a tenth or half a tenth, depending on the irrigation method. It is not permissible to give zakat to a cancer hospital, because a condition for zakat to be valid is that the poor person takes ownership of the zakat money.
