Gold bought with a portion of the dowry is the property of the wife. If the intention behind the gold combines both saving and adornment, then zakat (definition) is obligatory on it, provided it reaches the nisab (definition) (85 grams) and one hawl (lunar year) passes over it. The amount of zakat is a quarter of a tenth (2.5%) of the gold, and it must be paid for every past year in which zakat was not paid, provided the conditions were met.
