The answer

The majority of scholars hold the view that debt diminishes the obligation on hidden wealth (such as gold, silver, cash, and trade goods). Accordingly, your debt of 200,000 will be deducted, and you will pay zakat on only 250,000. This is provided you do not have a surplus of non-zakat eligible assets (such as cars and houses for personal use); otherwise, offset this surplus against the debt and pay zakat on the full amount of 450,000 after the completion of a lunar year (hawl). The for banknotes is equivalent to 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver, and the zakat due on it is a quarter of a tenth (2.5%).
