Is it permissible for a female employee to consider the amount she allocates to her needy sister (who is married and has children) as zakat from her money, and is it necessary to inform the sister that this money is zakat?
It is permissible to give to your needy sister if her husband does not provide her with sufficient means due to his poverty. Your Zakat is valid, and you are not obligated to inform her that what you are giving her is Zakat. The majority of scholars have favored the permissibility of giving Zakat to a relative, as long as they are not a parent or child whose maintenance is obligatory upon you, due to the general texts regarding Zakat and the specific texts regarding the virtue of giving charity to relatives. As for the wife, parents, and children, in cases where their maintenance is obligatory, they are excluded by consensus.
