If the fetus is aborted after its formation, blood money (diyah) is obligatory upon the one who directly caused the abortion. This diyah is a ghurrah (a male or female slave), estimated at one-tenth of the mother's diyah, and is approximately equal to 213 grams of gold. This diyah is paid to the heirs of the fetus, excluding the killer. And whoever assisted in the abortion must offer sincere repentance.
