Is zakat to be given as money, or are goods to be purchased with it and then given as zakat?

The Zakat (definition) payer must disburse the Zakat from the same type of wealth on which it became obligatory, whether it be currency, livestock, or crops. According to the majority of scholars, paying its value in money is not sufficient. Furthermore, the Zakat must be transferred into the ownership of the poor person, meaning it must pass from the hand of the Zakat payer to the poor person.
