Must an Indonesian student studying in Japan and receiving a scholarship from the state pay Zakat?

Zakat (definition) is obligatory on four types of assets: produce from the earth, pastured livestock (behimat al-an'am), gold and silver (and what replaces them, such as paper currency), and trade goods. The money you possess is in paper currency, so the easiest way to pay zakat is to look at your balance after one Hijri year has passed and give twenty-five out of every thousand. If you spend the money immediately and it does not reach the nisab (definition) and a full year passes over it, then there is no zakat due on you.
